The electronic component (1) has a connecting finger (2) projecting out of a covering of the component. A section of the connecting finger projecting out of a covering is protected against atmospheric influences partly by a protection unit (3) and the protection unit comprises bitumen. The protection unit is fixed, as thin layer with a thickness of 0.5 millimeter on connecting finger. An independent claim is also included for a method for applying a protective agent on a connection finger of an electronic component.
