The method involves determining an initial magnetization curve from a temporal flow of a magnetic field using a processing unit. A damping function is determined from the initial magnetization curve. An alternating magnetic field that is damped based on the damping function is produced in a partial-area of an object (6), by a magnetic field source (5). The temporal flow of the former magnetic field is detected by a magnetic field detector (7).
