The method involves providing a total target torque (2) for an internal combustion engine and an electric machine by a drive input. A total torque is provided on a power transmission of a vehicle by compensation of a temporarily increased actual torque of the internal combustion engine, where the compensation takes place by the electric machine, and the total torque corresponds to a filtered total target torque (6). The total target torque is low-pass-filtered, and a rate of change of the filtered total target torque is small during a load change.
