The method involves utilizing a transport protocol (P), when a data link is established between two data terminals (E1-E3). An application data of the transport protocol is transmitted, during transmission of additional data packets as reference data. The data packets for the transport protocol are produced from control and addressing information of the transport protocol, in the data terminals, where the information is contained in a reference data portion of another transport protocol and the received application data of the former transport protocol. An independent claim is also included for a control circuit comprising a data terminal.
