Control system of direction to the reduction ratio is variable, comprising a control member (2) to the arrangement of a driver to act on the direction of the vehicle, said control device is operable to the inside of a maximum range (thetamax) between a stop to the left and a stop to the right and delivering a signal of deflection required (theta) quantified in amplitude and direction, said steering system comprising at least one actuator (3) in order to act on the angle of deflection of the at least one steering wheel, said steering system comprising a controller (4) using as the input variables at least the speed of the vehicle (v) and the signal of deflection required (theta) in order to determine for each of the control actuators an angle (alpha) in which the actuator is controlled to the deflection, comprising a first unit (41) in order to determine, at least as a function of the vehicle speed (v) and preferably as a function of the maximum transverse acceleration (gamma ymax) of the vehicle, a maximum angle of lock (betamax) on the steering wheel of a bicycle equivalent model of the vehicle, a second unit (42) in order to determine a reduction ratio (r) as a function of the maximum range (thetamax) of the control member and said maximum angle of lock (betamax), a final processing unit (43) in order to determine the angle (s) of deflection (a) as a function of the demultiplication ratio (r) and of the signal of deflection required (theta).
