The method involves estimating pressure of an exhaust gas in upstream of a turbine (21) by choosing one of two formulas. The formulas comprise parameters such as pressure of the gas in downstream of the turbine, intake pressures of air in upstream and downstream of a compressor (20), and corrective functions depending on the intake pressures. The formulas comprise other corrective functions having constant value or depending on a parameter such as intake air flow rate, fuel flow rate, exhaust gas flow rate in engine outlet, recirculation gas flow rate, and variation in one of the flow rates.
