A bimetal bore seal for connecting and sealing oil and gas tubular members

A bore seal 50 for connecting and sealing between oil and gas tubular members 20, 22, the bore seal 50 comprising a metal core 54 manufactured from high yield strength ferrous material and a protective overlay 52 of corrosion and abrasion resistant stainless steel and/or nickel-based alloy. The protective overlay 52 is applied to the entire outer surface of the bore seal 50 by a metal thermal spray process, such as plasma thermal spraying. The bore seal ahs a "fish-tail" profile which facilitates the use of resilient seals 60 to provide resistance to external pressures in addition to the conventional metal-to-metal seal between the bore seal 50 and the tubular members 20, 22. A pressure relief valve 90 may be disposed within the bore seal to verify the integrity of the metal-to-metal seal with respect to internal bore pressure.
