PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method of automatically and adaptively controlling transmission power level of a mobile subscriber station in a cellular communication network using a spread spectrum modulation.;SOLUTION: The adaptive power control system of a spread spectrum transmitter includes a base station and a mobile subscriber station. The base station includes an AGC amplifier (228), a back-diffuser (231), a comparator (230), a power amplifier (237), a delta modulator (235), a multiplexer (234), a combiner (236), and a power measuring unit (233). The mobile subscriber station includes a back-diffuser, a demultiplexer, a demodulator, a variable gain device, and a transmitter.
