PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic dictionary system which can notify reading and semantic meaning of a word suitable for the content of a document when displaying the semantic meaning of a specified word. PSOLUTION: A recommended semantic meaning data extraction means 106 included in a computer 10 extracts one semantic data from among semantic data contained in description data of specified word and from part of speech of a selected word and context of selected word as a recommended semantic meaning data. A display control means 104 included in the computer 10 generates display data which discriminates visually other semantic data and the recommended semantic meaning data and displays them.
