PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a friction material and a friction material using carbon nanofibers, a method for producing a carbon fiber composite material and a carbon fiber composite material.;SOLUTION: The friction material 2 comprises reinforcing fibers, a friction adjusting material, a rubber composition and a binder resin. The rubber composition is a particulate carbon fiber composite material in which carbon nanofibers having an average diameter of 0.5-500 nm are uniformly dispersed in an elastomer.
