This invention relates to a method for treating wastewater from textile industry. Effluents are first acidified preferably with sulphuric acid and treated with Potassium permanganate and hydrogen peroxide solutions. This step is followed by aeration and subsequent sand filtration before discharging the effluent to the environment or before recycling to the industry. The advantage of this process is minimum sludge formation.
