This invention relates to a process for producing a fatty organic composition from press mud, which is an agro waste from sugar industry. Accordingly to this process, press mud is first subjected to an extraction step using aqueous surfactant solution. The filtrate is separated and the residue is repeatedly extracted with water. The initial extract is mixed with the subsequent aqueous extracts and evaporated- The dry mass is then subjected to chloroform extraction to remove traces of surfactant contamination therefrom.
