Appts. for mixing concentrates with water to form an aq. soln. comprises a body with a central concentrate passage, a water passage and a metering chamber. Concentrate supply passages communicate with the central passage and chamber. The water passage has an annular cross-section defined by a tapering inner wall of the body and a central, longitudinally movable core which extends into the metering chamber. The central passage is provided with a return flow blocking valve. Appts. is particularly useful for mixing water and liq. polymers for tertiary oil recovery. The polymer soln. is subjected to strong turbulences immediately after the polymer has been joined with the water so that each polymer gel particle is individually wetted by the water and will be dissolved.
