A process for the preparation of a compound of formula (I) (see formula) wherein R represents a 2,3-dihydroxy-1-propyl or 1,3-dihydroxy-2-propyl, which comprises reacting an ester dialkyl 5-amino-1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid of formula (V), (see formula) wherein R1 represents a linear or branched alkyl group (C1-C4), with at least two moles of an amine of formula H 2 NR wherein R is as defined above.
