A system for fire protection of a structural element, which system comprisingone or more fire protection boardsattached to the said structural element, and one or more hard plates attachedto an outer surface of the fire protection boards bymeans of a non-combustable adhesive, said hard plates having a harder surfacethan the fire protection board. A method forprotecting a structural element is also disclosed.
