A device and method for the continuous electrocardiographic (ECG) recording of a patient during dialysis and extracorporeal treatments or comparable treatments. The ECG tracing is displayed at the same time or alternately to data such as at least one operation parameter of the haemodialysis apparatus and at least one vital parameter of the patient. Said device allows the recording on a digital storage medium of said ECG, as well as of the operation parameters of the haemodialysis apparatus and of other vital parameters of the patient measured by the apparatus, so that the patient may take along a copy of said recordings when he or she intends to undergo a next treatment in another centre, thus facilitating the staff of this centre in outlining the clinical case of the patient.
