A cooking pan has a bottom wall (12), and a side wall (16) that extends upward about a cooking surface (14) on the bottom wall (12). A handle (20) is joined at one end to the side wall (16), and a lower portion (18) of the side wall (16) next to the cooking surface (14) and opposite the handle (20) is formed so that food pieces when on the cooking surface (14) are propelled upward near the side wall (16) when the handle (20) is pulled backward. The side wall (16) has a raised upper portion (24) opposite the handle (20). A line drawn tangent to an inside surface of the raised upper portion (24) at a top edge point (P4) of the upper portion, forms an angle (A) of between two and ten degrees with respect to the normal direction of the cooking surface (14). When the pan is pulled back while cooking, the contents are propelled upward and directed to land in forward region of the cooking surface (14) further from the handle (20).
