Provided is a magnetic device whereby recording and playback timing of a magnetic head onto and from bit-carrying bodies of a bit-patterned medium can be controlled. The magnetic recording device using a bit-patterned medium (10), in which a plurality of bit-carrying bodies (15) comprising magnetic bodies are disposed onto a magnetic recording medium, comprises a magnetic head (20), a detector (30), and a timing controller (40). The magnetic head (20) performs recording and playback of information onto and from the bit-carrying bodies (15). The detector (30) detects locations of the bit-carrying bodies (15) and outputs a correlation signal before the magnetic head (20) performs recording or playback onto or from the bit-carrying bodies (15). The timing controller (40) controls recording and playback timing of the magnetic head (20) onto and from the bit-carrying bodies, utilizing the correlation signal output by the detector (30).
