The method involves determining a current time value by using one of field devices, and providing a desired value in a central server, where the current time value is compared with the desired value. The current time value is set to the desired value when the desired value differs from the current time value by more than a predetermined threshold value. Fill-level measuring devices, pressure measuring devices and field-device control units are included in the field devices. A time difference is determined between the current time value and the desired value. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a data-and-communication-network-based measuring system for measuring a fill level and a pressure for an automatic time synchronization (2) a computer program having a set of instructions for performing an automatic time synchronization of field devices based on a communication-and-data network (3) a storage medium having a set of instructions for performing an automatic time synchronization of field devices based on a communication-and-data network (4) a microprocessor for performing an automatic time synchronization of field devices based on a communication-and-data network.
