Underwater cable protectors, uses thereof and methods of underwater cable protection

Angular movement of an articulated underwater cable protector (500) of which the longitudinal axis (X) of the cable protector is coaxial with the longitudinal axis of the cable (200) is restricted to provide a robust joint which can articulate according to its surroundings underwater. The articulation joint (30, 40) of the underwater cable protector is provided between at least two modules (100) interconnected end-to-end and each module comprises a pair of mating confronting elongate half portions (1, 1'). Reliable underwater cable protection may be obtained by restricting articulation of the joint between adjacent modules to angular movement about a single transverse axis through the articulation joint, which is perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the through passage in the joint. The longitudinal axis of the joint may be coaxial with the longitudinal axis of the through passage in the joint and hence of the cable in the joint. The longitudinal axis of the through passage in the joint may be coaxial with the longitudinal axis of the passage throughout the module and hence of the cable throughout the module.
