A nerve cell protecting agent, a screening method of a nerve cell, and a neurotransmittion promoter are provided to control the neurotransmittion at neuron by increasing the calcium concentration in cell by activating the glutamate receptor of a neuron cell membrane after the adjacent synapse. A nerve cell protecting agent contains the inhibitor or antagonist of the G-protein coupled receptor existing in astrocyte as an active ingredient, and protects a nerve cell from the neurotoxicity by the overactivation of the N-methyl-D-aspartic acid (NMDA) receptor of neuron after synapse by the glutamate emitted from astrocyte.
