A method and an apparatus for detecting a leakage current and determining a phase of the leakage current are provided to detect three phase leakage current by distinguishing a phase where a leakage current is generate. A sum electric current calculation unit(110) produces an integrated electric current by summing three phase currents measured from a distribution line and a zero-phase current. The sum current calculation unit is comprised of a zero-phase current transformer, and a leakage current determining unit(120) determines a generating state of the leakage current by utilizing a value of the integrated electric current calculated from above sum current output unit.
