An apparatus and a method for controlling peak power of a multi-air-conditioner system are provided to control the operation of an indoor unit in consideration of the operating state of the operating indoor unit to allow a user to use the air-conditioner system conveniently. An apparatus for controlling peak power of a multi-air-conditioner system includes a power sensor(220) and a controller(230). The power sensor senses the quantity of power consumed by at least one indoor unit. The controller sums up the quantity of power consumed by the at least one indoor unit. The controller compares the summed quantity of consumed power with a predetermined reference quantity of power and controls the operation of the at least one indoor unit based on the comparison result.
