PURPOSE: A vertical type light emitting device and a method of fabricating the same are provided to improve the electric characteristics.;CONSTITUTION: A vertical type light emitting device comprises a compound semiconductor layer, a metal reflective layer(61), a guard metal layer(63), and a conductive board(71). The compound semiconductor layer is formed by a first electrical conduction semiconductor layer(55), an active layer(57), and a second electrical conduction semiconductor layer(59). The metal reflective layer is formed on the compound semiconductor layer. The guard metal layer is formed on the metal reflective layer. The conductive board is formed on the guard metal layer.
