A method for determining the water content of samples (7), in particular of samples from the floor, the bottom of building materials and granules, with a test chamber (1) for receiving the sample (7), characterized in that– first of all in the test chamber (1) with a known volume (vK) the sample (7) with a known mass (mP) the gap is filled with,– thereafter the test chamber (1) is closed in a gas-tight manner, and the then which is applied to the internal pressure (p0) with a pressure sensor (5) is detected,– subsequently an additional body (6) with a known additional volume (vZ) in the test chamber (1) is introduced, or an additional body (6) with a known additional volume (vZ) from the test chamber 1 is removed and the changed internal pressure (p1) is measured and– by means of the measured gas pressures (p0, p1) and the known volumes (vK, VZ) the unknown volume (vP) the sample is determined and, from this, the mass of the liquid portion of the sample (mf) and of which the water content (w) are determined.
