The device (10) has an electromagnetic blocking unit with an armature e.g. permanent magnet, where current flows in a coil e.g. superconductor, during transfer of the unit from a release position to a blocking position so that a magnetic force acts on the armature. The armature is moved from one position to another position by the magnetic force. Another coil e.g. superconductor, is integrated in a housing, where current flows in the coil so that another magnetic force acts on the armature to hold the armature in the latter position when the unit is in the release position. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a device for accommodating an electronic key.
