The armrest (4) has a handling element (3) arranged at a front side of the armrest, where the front side is pointed towards a passenger area (19) of a vehicle. Pivot force is manually transferred to the armrest to pivot the armrest from a resting position. A mechanical coupling device (16) is provided between the element and a locking device (13), and transfers a part of the force to the device (13). The locking device is adjusted from a locking position into an opening position by a force part, where the force part is provided in the device (16). The element is formed as a textile loop.
