The backrest locking device has a locking unit with which backrest portions (6,8) of a vehicle seat bench (2) is lockable in a vertical use position. The backrest portions are pivotable against a seat portion (4). The backrest portions are pivotable from an use position into a horizontal transport position by releasing the locking unit. The locking unit has a locking aid releasable by manual force. The locking aid is arranged on or in the backrest portion and is releasable by a remote-controlled actuating unit.
