The method involves determining actual steering moment using a steering moment sensor or using a characteristic diagram, which includes actual steering moment depending on driving speed, acceleration and single wheel rotational speed of steerable wheels. A target steering moment is calculated from values of steering wheel angles, longitudinal speed, longitudinal acceleration and transverse acceleration of a vehicle. An adjustment moment reducing a deviation of the actual steering moment from the target steering moment, is initiated by an adjustment device based on the deviation.
