The method involves continuously supplying fuel (30) from a storage vessel (16) to a solid fuel furnace (12) in a combustion device (10) by using a supply device (14). The speed and/or on-time of the supply device is controlled by a control unit based on a control factor, where the control factor is energy unit of the supplied fuel, and is calculated by weight and calorific value of the supplied fuel or fuel mixture and determined by weighing defined volume of the fuel by using a measuring device in the supply device. An independent claim is also included for a solid fuel furnace automatic control device comprising a measuring device.
