The appliance has a washing container (1) accommodated in a device housing. Two force sensors (8, 9) are provided on two housing sides, which are lying opposite to each other. A force sensing element (18) is provided for sensing force acting on the force sensors. The sensing element is arranged between the force sensors. The sensing element is connected with the force sensors for transmission of forces acting on the housing sides into the sensing element. Container side walls (3, 4) are arranged opposite to each other and are arranged adjacent to housing sides.
