An automobile rear bench seat has a horizontal seating base and an upright backrest. The backrest hinges between a first upright seating position and slides forwards to a second upright position to extend the existing load platform. The link between the backrest and vehicle body is effected by a pair of guides each side of the seat. The scissor-action guides on each side pivot with respect to each other at their centre.
