Foam used in rear seat backrest

The first Ultratect production part form BASF has found its way into the rear seat backrest on the new BMW M3 CSL. Ultratect is a thermoplastic structural foam derivded from BASF's high temperature resisting Ultrason E PES resin. At 5.5 kg, the new foam composite part is half the weight of the conventional steel structure, yet has good crashworthiness and better vibration dampening, clams BASF.
