The driving assistance controlling unit has a controlling module that is provided with an elastic band module, which determines object information on the basis of a motor vehicle. A stationary condition of an ideal elastic band is determined by particles (13). The particles are connected with each other and with an object that is characterized by the object information. The object is connected over ideal spring (15,15I to 15IV). Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a driving assistance system for a motor vehicle; and (2) an assistance method for supporting a driver during a collision-free driving of a motor vehicle.
