Process for producing a silver containing coating agent comprises reacting at least one alkoxysilane, at least one soluble silver salt and at least one amine compound in an aqueous solution or in a solvent mixture of water and a water-miscible organic solvent. An independent claim is included for the silver containing coating agent obtained by the above process.
