The axle has wheel supports (3) pivotable at shaft ends around a vertically pivotable axis (S). A pinion (K1) is rotatably coupled with a ring gear (T2) of a traction motor sided-bevel gear, which is arranged upstream to a wheel motor sided- bevel gear. Each support includes a wheel rotor (4) driven by a traction motor (6) e.g. hydro motor, under interconnection of the gears. A pinion (K2) is directly or indirectly driven by a traction motor shaft (6a). The motor is arranged on a pivotable axis side, which is distant to the supports, relative to straight-ahead driving.
