The system (S) has a determination unit for determining optimization potentials in industrial systems (A1-An), and another determination unit for determining system signals correlating to the potentials. A generating unit generates process data samples based on actual system situations, and interfaces (SS1-SSn) transmit the process samples to central database (DB), where validity checking of the samples is carried out before transmission of the samples. A processing mechanism (VM) generates knowledge about the industrial systems by using the samples and the potentials. An independent claim is also included for a method for collecting data from an industrial system.
