The method involves obtaining values of an assumed holding voltage for a clutch actuator position from a stored characteristic diagram. An actual holding voltage for the clutch actuator position is determined. The actual holding voltage is compared with the values of the assumed holding voltage. The holding voltage values assumed from the characteristic diagram are adjusted for a number of clutch actuator positions by the comparison of the actual holding voltage with the values of the assumed holding voltage.
