A device (d) is dedicated to controlling the position of a time delay associated with a radio terminal connected to a base station (sb) of a radio network of ofdm type. This device (d) comprises i) of the calculation means (mp) responsible for estimating the power profile, as a function of time, of a channel used by a sequence of the pilot signal emitted by the terminal and of the echo signals of this signal of sequence of the pilot, the position of the time delay of the signal which is associated with the power of the largest, and then to estimate the contribution to the profile of the signal, the position of the time delay has been estimated, and to subtract the profile of this contribution is estimated in order to deliver a profile that is updated and ii) of the control means (mc) designed to determine, after each update profile if at least one selected condition is satisfied, and in the negative to constrain the calculation means (mp) to reproduce the operations for estimating and the subtraction operation using the profile, or in the affirmative, in order to determine if a control signal representative of a new value of the propagation time must be transmitted to the terminal as a function of the estimated position of at least one of the time delays, associated with an echo signal, with respect to an analysis window.
