The method involves weighting and/or adjusting calculation models using weighting and/or adjusting coefficients for each model depending on operating conditions of a combustion engine for calculating final estimation of the physical quantity from estimations calculated by the models. The engine has a recirculation path (3) for recirculating a part of exhaust gas towards an intake and rejecting another part of the gas towards the atmosphere.
