The oven has a muffle (10) defining a cooking chamber (12), and a spit drive system (16) with a spit drive motor (18) arranged outside the chamber. A stainless steel shaft (30) driven by the motor transmits rotary motion produced by the motor to an inner side of the chamber. The shaft passes through a shaft passage (32) provided in the muffle such that a shaft end (34) leads in the chamber. The shaft end is in integral connection with a coupling element (36), where the shaft end presents a polygonal profile.
