PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pharmaceutical composition useful for the treatment of an individual affected by metabolic dysfunction of brain. PSOLUTION: This pharmaceutical composition contains a saccharide, a Krebs cycle intermediate or its salt, or a precursor of a Krebs cycle intermediate. As the saccharide, monosaccharide, disaccharide, polysaccharide, or their mixture are favorable. As the Krebs cycle intermediate, citric acid, aconitic acid, isocitric acid, -ketoglutaric acid, succinic acid, fumaric acid, malic acid, oxaloacetic acid, or their mixture is favorable. As the precursor of the Krebs cycle intermediate, 2-keto-4-hydroxy propanol, 2,4-dihydroxy butanol, 2-keto-4-hydroxy butanol, 2,4-dihydroxy butylic acid, 2-keto-4-hydroxy butylic acid, aspartate, a mono-alkyl ester of oxaloacetic acid, a di-alkyl ester of oxaloacetic acid and their mixture is favorable.
