PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing the rice variant of Japonica strain containing high amylose starch, the starch originated from the rice variant and the method for producing the same by solving a problem in that although the high amylose starch is utilized in many ways as industrial materials, foods and food additives, such as a hardly digestible starch, the starch having film characteristics, etc., up to now, marketed material is originated from a corn of a strain containing the high amylose starch and there is no such material originated from the rice.;SOLUTION: This variant rice is obtained by selecting clouded seeds obtained by the intercalation of retrotransposon Tos17 from the progeny of mating the variants of type I and type IIIa which are isozymes of a starch synthase which is one of rice starch synthases, and having highly reduced both enzyme activities.
