PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further accurately calculate a burnt gas quantity in EGR gas after stopping execution of fuel cut control. PSOLUTION: This burnt gas passing quantity calculating device is applied to an internal combustion engine for executing the fuel cut control for temporarily stopping fuel supply when an execution condition is realized. The internal combustion engine includes an exhaust gas recirculating system having an exhaust gas recirculating passage for communicating its intake passage and exhaust passage, and an exhaust gas recirculating valve for changing the passage cross-sectional area of the exhaust gas recirculating passage, and stores a correlation in advance in an electronic control unit (S105) by specifying the correlation between an engine speed NE in a predetermined period just after stopping the execution of the fuel cut control and an index value of the burnt gas quantity in exhaust gas recirculating gas passing through the exhaust gas recirculating valve (S101-S104), and calculates the index value of the burnt gas quantity from the correlation stored in the electronic control unit based on the engine speed NE just after stopping the execution of the fuel cut control.
