PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a capacitive proximity sensor capable of optionally setting an area of a detection region by improving the directivity without requiring a three-dimensional sensor structure, a detection method and an electrode structure.;SOLUTION: A capacitive proximity sensor 100 includes a sensor part 10 and a detection circuit part 20. The sensor part 10 includes first sensor electrodes 11a, 11b, a second sensor electrode 11c, a shield electrode 12, first auxiliary electrodes 13a, 13b, and a second auxiliary electrode 13c. These are connected to a positive input terminal P or a negative input terminal N of a C-V conversion circuit 21 of the detection circuit part 20, a shield driving circuit 24, or the like by change over switches SW1 to SW4. The changeover switches SW1 to SW4 are provided on the side 1 and the side 2, and can be selectively switched.
