PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide layered lithium nickel manganese cobalt based composite oxide powder for a positive electrode material of a lithium secondary battery, capable of obtaining compatibility of a low cost, high safety, and enhancement of battery performance when using it for the positive electrode material of the lithium secondary battery. PSOLUTION: As to this layered lithium nickel manganese cobalt based composite oxide powder for the positive electrode material of the lithium secondary battery, its composition is expressed by the formula (1): LiSB1+z/SBNiSBx/SBMnSBy/SBCoSB1-x-y/SBOSB/SB(wherein, 0z0.91, 0.1x0.55, 0.20y0.90, 0.50x+y1, and 1.93), its volume resistivity of 510SP5/SPcm or less when consolidating it by a pressure of 40 MPa, and when contained carbon concentration is expressed by C (weight %), and a BET specific surface area is expressed by S (mSP2/SP/g), the C/S value is 0.025 or less. In a limited composition range, the volume resistivity is lowered to a specified value or less, and the contained carbon concentration is also substantially reduced.
