PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a throw away type cutting tip made of surface coated cemented carbide exhibiting high abrasion resistance in high speed cutting.;SOLUTION: This throw away type cutting tip made of surface coated cemented carbide is a sintered compact of a green compact having a composition composed of 8 to 10 mass % of Co, 20 to 30% of complex carbide of W and Ti having the composition formula (W1-YTiY)C (where, Y is 0.3 to 0.6 in atomic ratio), 5 to 10% of niobium carbide, and the remaining ratio of tungsten carbide. In a texture observation by a scanning electron microscope, a dispersion phase comprises a tungsten carbide phase and a complex carbide phase of W, Ti, and Nb. A binder phase has a complex nitride layer of Ti and Al having 0.5 to 6 μm of average thickness and the composition formula (Ti1-XAlX)N (where, X is 0.1 to 0.6 in atomic ratio) as a hard coating layer on the surface of a substrate formed of tungsten carbide-based cemented carbide having a texture made of Co-W based alloy.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
