PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing fine projections to the surface of a metallic material having aging properties capable of forming fine projections by a simple method, to provide fine projections obtained by the production method, and to provide a carrier for a catalyst and a contact conveying device provided with the fine projections.;SOLUTION: The production method comprises: a stage where a metallic material having aging properties is subjected to solution heat treatment, and precipitation components are dissolved into a matrix; and a stage where the surface of the metallic material is subjected to sputter etching while cooling the metallic material in such a manner that the compound comprising the precipitation components is not precipitated into the matrix, so as to form fine projections of the compound comprising the precipitation components on the sputter-etched face in the metallic material. The sputter etching is performed in such a manner that the temperature in the vicinity of the surface in the metallic material to be subjected to the sputter etching is controlled to the precipitation temperature region of the compound comprising the precipitation components, and further, the sputter etching rate is controlled to the range not exceeding the growth rate in the depth direction of the compound comprising the precipitation components in the metallic material.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
