PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide stainless steel which has both of excellent conductivity and corrosion resistance and is suitable to a material for a polymer electrolyte fuel cell separator. PSOLUTION: The stainless steel has a composition containing, by mass, 0.05% C, 2.0% Si, 2.0% Mn, 0.040% P, 0.003% S, 2.0 to 8.0% Ni, 20 to 30% Cr, 1.0 to 8.0% Mo, 1.0 to 8.0% Cu, 0.50 to 2.0% Ti and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. The contents of Ni and Cr in the stainless steel can be made to 8.0 to 30% and 20 to 35%, respectively. Further, 1.0% Al or further 0.40% N can be added so as to be composite.
