The present invention is related to a system and method for collecting rain and smelt water from the southeastern border of the Citlaltepetl mountain and leading it to the Valley of Mexico by gravity, using different stages. The system for collecting and leading rain and smelt water by gravity comprises a collecting channel for collecting the rain and smelt water, an aqueduct for transporting the same, regulating containers for storing the water volume and gates along the collecting channel and aqueduct for controlling the water flow.
